Skaftafell (8 percussionists)

This work evokes the character of the Skaftafell region of Vatnajökull National Park in southeast Iceland. The area is characterized by its stark forms and contrasts created by the violent geology of the region. Glaciers and mountains surround a black, sandy wasteland formed by glacial floods. It was composed in 2014 and has been performed several times by members of the Acadia University Percussion Ensemble, and by participants in the TorQ Percussion Seminar in Stratford, ON.
